If you try to do something that can’t be done, you will hear a “beep.” A beep can also sound (Full Mode only) when you are using a form whose use could be optimized in some way.
The actual beep can be turned off via the Control Panel (Apple menu). In this case, the menu bar will flash instead.
When a beep sounds, you can select Why? from the Apple menu. This will give you a small alert box with a brief explanation. Click OK to continue.
Sometimes you will hear a beep, and no Why? message will be available. This is because the beep was generated by the Macintosh system, and not by Helix. An example would be trying to use the Note Pad with the System disk locked.
